United States Citizenship and Immigration Services acting head Ken Cuccinelli is making it clear, in both word and deed, that the Trump administration will be increasing scrutiny on in-coming immigration workers.
“USCIS is vigorous in its efforts to detect and deter immigration fraud, using a variety of vetting and screening processes to confirm an applicant’s identity and eligibility. While in theory this may appease political bases and make good rhetoric, in practice it is making hiring for skilled labor significantly harder. H-1B petitions are being denied at a much higher rate, from 6% in 2015 to 32% in 2019. That’s both dramatic and emblematic of a mentality that isn’t putting the real cogs of the economy, skilled labor, first.
